About PSLE
Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) - The annual placement examination for students at the end of their final year of primary school education in Singapore is probably one of the most important examination for students. In the final year prior to the PSLE, we therefore offer a comprehensive programme targeting on the various papers to prepare the students for the exam.
Important Dates
In lieu of the examination dates for Chinese Language PSLE, preparation for PSLE should start no later than December in the prior year. This is to ensure that there is sufficient time for the effective tutoring for the subject.
- August - Oral Examination

Teaching Methods
Bilingual Teaching
With predominantly English speaking families in Singapore, the use of English to teach and explain difficult to understand Chinese vocabulary and content to students have proven effective for many students.
Building on Vocabulary and Idioms
Central to the effective learning of the Chinese language is to a strong focus on building on the recognition and understanding of Chinese vocabulary and idioms. In fact, students are required to be able to read up to 1,650 Chinese words and write up to 1,100 different Chinese words by Primary 6.
Holistic Learning
Learning of the Chinese language should be meaningful by developing the interest of the language through incorporation of cultural elements into the lesson and promoting the use of the language effectively and efficiently in daily life.
Developing Key Examination Skills
Developing Language Application, Composition Writing, Oral and Listening Comprehension skills as well as Critical thinking skills to tackle the more challenging examination questions. Familiarisation of the examination paper format through mock exam practises to reduce examination anxiety and focus the mind on answering the examination questions.
PSLE Tuition Syllabus

A refinement of the various skills required for the Chinese Language PSLE as well as Examination Tips!
Paper 1:
- Composition – Hone creative writing skills as well as organisational skills in elaboration and construction of introduction, body and conclusion of essay.
Paper 2:
- Language Application – Develop an understanding of the application of various Chinese vocabulary and phrases.
- Cloze Passage - Analytical skill to assess and interpret the context and content of the passage provided and choosing the correct answer.
- Reading Comprehension - Analytical and critical thinking skills in answering evaluative comprehension questions based on the theme of the passage.
- Complete the Dialogue - Analytical ability and understanding of various Chinese vocabulary and phrases.
Paper 3:
- Oral – Learn and practise passage reading and video conversation skills.Listening.
- Listening Comprehension – Learn and practise how to effectively identify key information from a recording to answer factual, summary and inferential questions.
Teaching materials, exercises, homework and mock exams will be provided according to the level of the students.
Chinese Language PSLE Format

What to Expect?
Paper 1: Composition (Duration: 50 Mins) 40 Marks / 20% Weightage
For Composition, students are to choose one question to answer from an option of a Proposition Composition or Picture Composition. Composition to be not less than 100 words. Students are however allowed to use an approved dictionary during this paper.
Paper 2: Language Application & Reading Comprehension (100 Mins) 90 Marks / 45% Weightage
Paper 2 consists of 2 sections:
Section I:
Language Application (15 Multiple Choice Questions 30 Marks)
Base on the meaning of the sentence, students are to choose the most appropriate answer from the options (Including Han Yu Pin Yin, word, phrases and sentences) provided.
Cloze Passage (5 Multiple Choice Questions 10 Marks)
Base on the content and context of the passage, students are to choose the most appropriate answer from the options provided to fill in the missing blanks within the passage.
Reading Comprehension I (5 Multiple Choice Questions 10 Marks)
Base on the passage provided, students are to read and answer questions relating to the passage by choosing from the options provided.
Section II:
Completing the Dialogue (4 Multiple Choice Questions 8 Marks)
Base on the content and context of the dialogue passage provided, students are to choose the most appropriate answer from the list of possible answers provided.
Reading Comprehension II (11 Open Ended Questions 32 Marks)
Consist of 2 short passages and base on the passages provided, students are to read and answer the questions base on their understanding of the passages.
Paper 3: Oral and Listening Comprehension
Oral (Approximately 10 Mins) 50 Marks / 25% Weightage
Prior to the examination, students are given 10 minutes to silently read a passage and watch a short video clip as many times as they want within the stipulated time limit.
Thereafter, the student is to proceed to the examiner to read the short passage aloud (20 Marks) followed by a conversation based on the video clip (30 Marks) provided earlier.
Listening Comprehension (Approximately 30 minutes) 20 Marks / 10% Weightage
Students are to listen to recordings (Dialogues, announcements, advertisements, stories etc) and then answer 10 multiple choice questions relating to the recordings.
Higher Chinese Language PSLE Format

What to Expect?
Paper 1: Composition (50 Mins) 40 Marks / 40% Weightage
For Composition, students are to choose one question to answer from an option of a Proposition Composition or Complete the Essay Composition.
Paper 2: Language Application & Reading Comprehension (80 Mins) 60 Marks / 60% Weightage
Paper 2 consists of 3 sections:
Section I:
Cloze Passage (5 Multiple Choice Questions 10 Marks)
Base on the content and context of the passage, students are to choose the most appropriate answer from the options provided to fill in the missing blanks within the passage.
Word Correction (5 Questions 10 Marks)
Base on the passage provided, students are to identify and correct the incorrectly written or applied words used in the passage.
Section II:
Reading Comprehension I (6 Open Ended Questions 16 Marks)
Base on the content and context of the passage provided, students are to read and answer the questions base on their understanding of the passage.
Section III:
Reading Comprehension II (7 Open Ended Questions 24 Marks)
Base on the content and context of the passage provided, students are to read and answer the questions base on their understanding of the passage.
